Philosophy #116

“I think; therefore I am.”
René Descartes

This marvelous quote could be interpreted in many different ways, but I will choose just one. “I think; therefore I am” could mean (in my own humble opinion) that we become what we think we are. I said it before and I will continue saying it till the day I no longer breathe: our thoughts are so powerful, so full of energy that at times we attract what we desire the most (knowingly or unknowingly.)

Decartes’s quote took me to my inner world, it helped me comprehend why I am in the situation that I am in. It even helped me come to the realization that all the past events that shaped me were all my fault for allowing my thoughts to wander around.

I am a true believer that if we want to change something in our lives, we must take responsibility first and then move on. We have to think, to analyze the situation we are in or the situations we were in. Perhaps after hours and hours of self-analysis, we will come to the conclusion that we were or are what we allow our thoughts to be.

First comes the thought, then the action and lastly the consequences of that action or inaction. Oh yes!!! There are so many consequences in no doing anything, just look at our world.

We cannot deny that our times are tough, but we all can make a difference in this world, simply by changing the way we see things; changing our thoughts. Our thought process has been violated so much; by our schools and by organized groups with only one agenda in mind: to shape YOU, to shape US and to shape OUR world with their ideas or the ideas that somebody else planted in their heads.

There is no denying that being aware of ones own thought process is extremely difficult, even impossible at times, but we must be willing to push through the pain of thinking before acting. There are so many of us that just go with the flow cause it is easier and we rather follow than lead. Before you do anything just remind yourself: there are consequences for my actions.

“I think; therefore I am.” Makes it so clear: our world is built by thought transmuted into action and what we are witnessing is the consequences of our collective thoughts. Indeed, it could be too late to change the world, it COULD, but I believe, as well as so many other beautiful souls, that we still have time. We can make a change in our lives and in the lives of others, simply by changing the way we perceive ourselves. We are all beautiful creatures, we are perfect is such imperfect ways: our imperfections make us perfect. Our differences should push us together not drives us apart.

I think I am more than just flesh, I think I am a marvelous creature, I think I have so much to offer this world, I think YOU do too and I will continue thinking; therefore I AM, there for YOU ARE. Let us change the world one thought at a time.

Leave your thoughts about this quote, I am intrigued to read how you perceive this quote or how you can dissect it further. Thank you and don’t forget to think, for a thing will be just a thing, until you think beyond that thing.

  1. I feel so blessed to be able to think, and therefore don’t waste my thoughts thinking that I cannot be my highest and my best. There are people right now that are losing their ability to think, and wander aimlessly in blank thought. They are now or soon will be unable to think about who they are. If we can think of who we are, I say don’t waste a minute getting it all muddled. Use it wisely!!!!

  2. I totally follow your thought process and agree almost with every thought, except this one (and probably not a surprise to you): “all the past events that shaped me were all my fault for allowing my thoughts to wander around.”
Not all past events are your fault. An innocent child can never be hold responsible for pain inflicted upon him/her.

  3. Reblogged this on Conscientious artiSan and commented:

I loved the quote and yor thoughts on the what it means.I have similar beliefs. Becoming aware off the power of the thought/reaction process is a lifting of the veil.seeing through matrix of collective thought is another process in itself. I look forward to reading further from your blog. keep going
