Philosophy #133

“Knowing others is intelligence;
knowing yourself is true wisdom.
Mastering others is strength;
mastering yourself is true power.”
― Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching

la4.1

Lao Tzu’s words speak for themselves, such wisdom should be taught in schools. There is nothing more beautiful than understanding the words with our souls.

I am curious to read what you guys have to say about this quote, and don’t forget to read the “Tao Te Ching” Stay bless and thank you for your continues support, LOVE YOU ALL.

Leave your thoughts about this quote, I am intrigued to read how you perceive this quote or how you can dissect it further. Thank you and don’t forget to think, for a thing will be just a thing, until you think beyond that thing.

  1. Thank you for this quote. I think people put their best efforts at knowing & mastering others because that’s what the world gives prizes for, while daily life satisfaction comes from knowing & mastering yourself.

    It also reminds me of the following quote, attributed to the 14th Dalai Lama:
    “The very purpose of religion is to control yourself, not to criticize others.”

  2. I agree with the general idea. Your focus should be primarily on understanding who you are and having control over what you do, acquire skills, then only can you help others and society. However I am not sure that mastering others shows strength. It shows domination, rule.

  3. The lines itself says it all…what I interpreted is having to know others is important but you are a true achiever only if you have mastered your own self.. Hence focusing on self rather than others is of utmost importance for a happy life. 🙂
